Beursplein nominated for the Urban Land Institute ‘Award for Excellence 2010’
The Beursplein project in Rotterdam, designed by de Architekten Cie., has been nominated by the jury of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) for the ‘Award for Excellence 2010’. This award is widely considered the most prestigious distinction within the property sector. Noteworthy, Beursplein was completed 16 years ago. The developer, Multi Vastgoed, chose to submit an older project because it has actually proven itself over the years. The Beursplein regenerated the heart of Rotterdam and has served as a model for large-scale urban intensification since its opening in 1996.
The ULI Award for Excellence is not just assessing the architecture, but the entire process of development. Criteria of the jury includes responsible land use, contribution to community, innovation, adaptation to the environment, financial results and a strong urban design that contributes to a viable and sustainable environment. Beursplein Rotterdam is the only Dutch nomination. The Awards for Excellence are divided into three categories, each based on continents: besides America and Asia there is the category Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), in which the Beursplein has been nominated. The jury will announce which of the 14 nominees will be the winner on June 28 at ULI’s Europe’s Trends Conference in London.
