Blok 47, IJburg, Amsterdam

nominated for the Amsterdam Architecture Prize 2010 (The Golden A.A.P)

The nominated projects will be published and exhibited at the ARCAM gallery from March 19th until May 5th.

Blok 47 is situated on the east section of the Haveneiland (Harbour Island). The block is cut in two by a canal; to the east there is a park while a harbour lies to the west.

The block comprises 169 housing units, 1.650 m2 of commercial space, 2.050 m2 of office space, and 97 parking spaces in an underground car park.

Blok 47 is a powerful, elegant building with an exceptional expression. The vertical relief of the brickwork emphasizes the impression of mass and weight. Seen from an angle, the façade gives a completely different impression than when viewed from the front.

The block is designed by Branimir Medić en Pero Puljiz.
