‘Botania’ residential complex, Amsterdam

Botania is a residential block in Amsterdam’s historic centre that is composed of a range of luxury apartments. The brick facades with white and dark green window frames are a reference to Amsterdam’s traditional canal-side properties. The 40 dwellings are grouped in an ingenious manner around the spacious entrance hall. The most striking are three 33-metre-long apartments that extend from front to back. These are set diagonally to one another and subdivide the block’s central open space into two step-like spaces: a patio that opens out towards the top and an interior space that narrows towards to the top, forming the entrance hall.
