Dadong Art Center, Kaohsiung
Da Dong Art center is based in Kaoshung county in the economic heart of southern Taiwan. Located between a park and the historic Feng Shuan city, the Da Dong Art Center links the open park and the dense historical city by a sequence of public spaces.
The intensive use of public space by activities as dance, Tai-Chi and various games characterize outdoor use in Taiwanese cities. A membrane roof creates a shaded condition for a wide range of activities. The roof shape prevents against extreme climatic conditions such as Taifun, periodically strong rain and high summer temperature. Wide holes in the roof guide the water to inner springs. Warm air rises to the top roof openings generating a fresh inner draft. The educative purpose of the art center is supported by a range of semi cultural indoor and outdoor activities.
