TEDA waterfront, Tianjin
TEDA waterfront is a 43 sq km masterplan for a new land reclamation area off the coast of Tianjin in the Bohai sea. The driving force in the organization of the masterplan is to create a naturalized delta which mimics the long forgotten existing waterfront. By integrating human occupation into a network of connected islands in the river delta, the scheme is able to maximize valuable waterfront property while minimizing its environmental footprint. Furthermore, each island has a primary programmatic function - mixed-use commercial centre, low-density residential, high density residential, sports and recreation, landmark hotel and leisure centre, etc. These programmatic functions serve as the starting points for the creation of individual island identities which will come together to define the unique waterfront area of TEDA.
