Strategic vision for the ‘Hart van Zuid’, Hengelo

The ‘Hart van Zuid’ project involves a former industrial zone in Hengelo-South, is a spatial programmatic strategy for the city’s revitalization. The plan builds on Hengelo’s existing qualities and identities, and is based on the analysis of ongoing developments and market opportunities. The plan area acts as a link between the centre of the city and its periphery, subdivided into three milieus that run from north to south. Immediately around the station lies a compact urban centre with a whole diversity of functions, such as urban housing, shops, offices and cultural facilities. To the south of this lies an outer suburban ring that is primarily residential and interconnects the residential areas on either side. The third milieu, on the edge of the city, turns towards the water and greenery. Here there is room for high-quality residential development with detached houses.
