Study into the Redeployment of Offices
At the moment there are approximately 2 million square metres of office space standing vacant in the Netherlands. A locally focused approach was central to this research into the re-use of offices, and Amsterdam was used as a case study. Research into the distribution of office vacancies across different types of building and urban milieus generated four categories of vacant office space, each of which requires a specific policy. The nature of the problem was analysed by category, cataloguing the spatial, technical and policy-driven opportunities. The recommendations are focused more on the environs of the buildings and on a phased transformation model as the basis for intervention.
