Plaza ArenA office buildings, Amsterdam
The two office buildings with chunks removed allude to the pivoting flexibility of the coloured cubes of a Rubik‘s Cube. Each of the three U-shaped volumes, all similar in their dimensions, is vertically rotated by 90 degrees to the next. This opens up the offices on different sides and creates an open and airy atrium in the middle. In combination with the glazed façades, this openwork form effects a maximum incidence of daylight. The daylight is filtered by screen-printed suspension panels in front of the glazed façades, preventing unwanted warming of the offices. Columns and structural cores bear all the vertical forces, so the floors can be arranged flexibly.
