The structure of this theatre complex, built primarily of glass, enfolds a bridge between the island of Slotsholmen in the western part of the city centre and the eastern harbour area, establishing an intimate courtyard plaza along this new through route. The undulating roof opens out here, to allow light and air to enter. A roof gable extends down to the square: besides providing access to the ‘telescope park’ above, the broad flights of steps also create a public amphitheatre. Moveable panels protect the public from rain and cold, and reflect the sun for as long as possible – as phototherapy to combat winter blues. The auditoriums, foyers and facilities on either side of the bridge are interconnected by an underpass.
