WTC Almere, Masterplan (2002)

The WTC complex is part of the redevelopment of Almere’s city centre and is situated between the north side of the Central Station and the Mandela Park. The design is composed of several volumes that are vertically and horizontally staggered, in response to the masterplan’s principle aim of establishing an ‘instant skyline’ for Almere through the architecture. This dynamic composition suggests a multitude of buildings within a single complex and at the same time provides a means of tailoring the building’s proportions to the surroundings. The generically organized floorspace ensures maximum programmatic flexibility in a high-quality building with a distinctive identity. The building is vertically segmented into three zones: the lower part of the structure is accessible and deep, the floor area in the central section is average, and the uppermost section offers panoramic views.
