‘Amsterdam Arch’ mixed-use gateway building, Amsterdam
The ‘Amsterdam Arch’ highlights the axis connecting Berlage’s Plan Zuid and the Zuidas (South Axis), Amsterdam’s new urban development area. This spot demanded an iconic structure. The gateway-like configuration and the omnidirectional façade with recurring patterns reinforces the complex’s sculptural quality. It rolls together the mix of functions that is typical of Zuidas in a single structure: in the plinth there is a museum, a hotel above it, and offices and apartments are situated in the side wings.
