Amsterdam Symphony, Amsterdam

A central feature in the Zuidas, on the extended Minervalaan, is the Amsterdam Symphony, consisting of a slender apartment block and a sturdier office block. The mixture of various functions, which makes the Zuidas a metropolitan quarter, is realized at building level in this project, with a mixture of private, semi-public, and public functions, including an art centre.

The unity of the two tower blocks is emphasized in the façade by means of the choice of material and façade pattern. The apartment block has windows that are twice as broad as those in the office block. Large glass surfaces emphasize the urbanity of the building. A stack of façade patterns has been laid over the grid to produce a refined appearance. As a result, the façade does ample justice to the rich urban layering of the Zuidas.
