ArenA Boulevard, Amsterdam
The construction of the Amsterdam ArenA stadium and the exceptional accessibility by rail and motorway presented opportunities to develop a new, multifunctional urban centre in Zuidoost (Amsterdam’s South-East Borough). The 75-metre-wide boulevard is not only lined by the intended shops, dwellings and offices, but also and primarily with supra-local entertainment functions, giving a new impulse to the surrounding Bijlmermeer residential area. The planned multiplex cinema, concert hall, theatre, and other retail and catering establishments along the boulevard guarantee bustling vitality in the evening, too. A wide underpass beneath the railway links the new entertainment hub with the existing Amsterdamse Poort shopping centre.
