Duyfrak expansion plan, Valkenburg
The expansion plan for Valkenburg (Province of South Holland) aims to preserve and reinforce its rustic identity. The historic village and the new expansion area will be forged into a two-fold entity by creating a ‘village green’ zone between the developed areas. A distinctive residential environment – countryside living with plenty of space and fine-grained construction – safeguards the village’s identity. The main routes in the plan area are a logical continuation of existing routes. The street layout and the subdivision of the new district are extensions of the curved lines in the landscape. These interventions ensure that the expansion area nestles like a natural extension of the historic village and dovetails seamlessly with the surroundings.
